About The We Care Project

We Care Project, a non-profit organization, serves communities in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Chesapeake, Virginia, starting with 50 recipients in 2019 to over 300 today.

Our service operates at Burning Bush Worship Center, 405 Pendleton Street in Norfolk, from 8 am to 2 pm on Tuesdays. This is made possible through donations from individuals and our major supporter, the Pamunkey Indians. We also collaborate with the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and Eastern Shores. We are seeking more partners to help secure resources for the needy and seniors in our communities.

Mission

Our mission is to improve our neighborhoods by empowering residents, enhancing public infrastructure, fostering community development, promoting education, and creating employment opportunities. We aim to help individuals become productive members of their community by providing food, resources, and support to build a stronger community.

Vision

Our vision is to create strong, vibrant communities through economic development, educational training, spiritual well-being, social service programs, and housing assistance. The projects goal is to help those who can't access stores or essential products like food and sanitizers. We aim to support seniors choosing between food, rent, and medicine and reduce poverty rates. Recognizing that local resources may not reach everyone, we strive to bridge this gap.

We Believe...

  • In a foundation of Faith and should place Faith at the center of everything we do

  • That food is a right and not a privilege.

  • In nourishing our community in body, mind, and spirit.

  • In creating a servant-hearted community and that the opportunity to serve is a gift.

  • In the culture of building up one another and our community.

  • In working together to end hunger and building a stronger community.

Seven volunteers have supported this project weekly for six years. They finance it by purchasing toiletries, food, and cleaning materials for seniors. They also provide counseling to the homeless and direct them to city resources. The volunteers are a listening ear to those we serve and their families.

If you, or anyone you know, need food and are having difficulty securing the necessary food for the health and well-being of your family, we can assist, please contact us. The only requirement is that you complete a form for our records.
